My clients had built a contemporary New England style house near West Wittering on the south coast in West Sussex. The house has views out to the countryside and the garden is very much a space for the whole family to spend time. My brief was to introduce some planting into what was a blank canvas other than a large terrace and swimming pool. The plants I chose provide colour for most of the year and thrive in a windy garden with heavy soil and salty winds. The style is slightly contemporary but the scheme is naturalistic and soft, with plants providing some height in the very flat garden but crucially, not blocking the views from inside the house.
